Past, Present, and Future of State University :: Argumentative Essays
Past, Present, and Future of State UniversityThe structure and workings of the university ar ever ever-changing. The university of the past is non like the university of the present and the university of the present leave alone not be like the university of the future. This adaptation to the times is what can make some universities great or make some universities among the worst in the nation. In the past the university was very set in their vogues. They did things the way they wanted them done. They paid no heed to the rest of the society and the way the ones paying the bills wanted them done. In the past the professors would lecture endlessly to the students. This endless lecturing often left the students bored and with no idea what was really said to them in the lecture. This is no way to try and teach students, students need interaction with the professors that are paid to teach them. As Paulo Freire believed there needs to be communication between the students and the professors and the class should not be totally memorization. Freire in any case believes that when the professors are active and the students are passive there is no learning there is only memorization. This is the way that things were done in the past. All classes were based on memorizing the material with no interaction. When all you do is memorize you do not put the material to use you just memorialise it for a short time and then you forget it forever. Freire says that when the teachers are rated on how well the student memorize the material, they are just passing the students on ignorance. The university should also teach the process of critical thinking not just how to learn facts. In the present many universities have either changed or are changing the way that they run their university. The universities now are taking on many of the beliefs of the major educational philosophers in order to make changes in the teaching methods. Universities are breaking down many of the divides between majors that they offer. By breaking these barriers the universities are becoming less specialized and more diverse. This goes along with the ideas of Berry.

Privacy Rights :: essays research papers
Privacy RightsThe concealing of the individual is the most important right. Without privacy, the democratic system that we know would non exist. Privacy is one of the fundamental values on which our country was founded. There argon exceptions to privacy rights that be created by the need for defense and security. When our country was founded, privacy was not an issue. The villages then were small and close. Most people knew their neighbors and what was going on in the community. They did not have drunk drivers, terrorist, or any other scourge of changing the way they lived. The transportation that most people had access to were horses. Today there argon autos that raise be fatal if not controlled. Speed limits and licenses are two examples. The government we have in place maintains and organizes our society. The elements of control are often viewed as violations of privacy. These elements are meant to protect us from irresponsible people and from nuisance themselves. The laws that are in place still give privacy without invading personal lives. Privacy is only violated when people feel they are cosmos violated. Jonathan Franzen writes this example of his feelings about privacy. One of my neighbors in the apartment building across the street spends a lot of time at her mirror examining her pores, and I can see her doing it, just as she can undoubtedly see me sometimes. But our respective privacies remain intact as long as neither of us feels seen.If people feel comfortable in their surroundings then privacy is not a concern. At other times, people feel violated when they are subject to random searches this random factor is what other people consider wrong. People feel intruded on when they see a roadblock ahead or a request to see their drivers license when writing checks. Others are interrupted at dinner by the phone ringing from telemarketers. This change of information is what the Europeans call data protection. If the data is not kept private, things such as credit political machined numbers could be stolen over the phone. The privacy in America will forever be changing as technology changes. Cell phones have been a factor in the way people communicates. Automobiles are equipped with TVs and mobile Internet. Privacy is increased, as people communicate less in person. People can spend an entire day in the car and have complete communication with others. Franzen also has this view about transportation.

Essay --
Hello worldFrederick Douglasss theory on Religion (Christianity), Slavery, and the LawPosted on August 7, 2010 by vrana258/07/2010Law and publications encompasses the power of literature and they way it presented the law in a light that allows its readers to interpret it from different directions. The law is a system of rules, which are enforced with consent by institutions. Often literature has contributed significantly in shaping the law. Slavery is one of the unfortunate practices in America that has been engraved in American history. In early centuries, people who favored or opposed slavery expressed it through literature. Frederick Douglass in his narrative, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, discusses the role of trust, Christianity in particular, which was written in literature known as the bible had two versions true Christianity and the white Christianity that helped in strengthening slavery.Frederick Douglass is known for being an outstanding orator, but he is loosely acknowledged for being an incredible abolitionist. His work to demolish slavery has been greatly known, detailing his life experience as a slave and expressing his theory on slavery. In Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, he demonstrates the way religion and its literature, the bible, had a negative influence and effect on slavery as well as the development of white Christianity.Douglass opens his narrative introducing himself stating his birthplace and age. However, he claims he cannot authenticate his introduction because he himself was a slave and was not given access to this information. forthwith he attempts to demonstrate the lack of knowledge slaves had because of their masters and slaveholders. Slaves were no... ...eir actions. Either this was the incorrect way Christianity was practiced or humanity was presented in an ambiguous way. The presence of religion goes on further when Douglass introduces Mr. Covey, another master he was assign too. Mr. Covey w as a professor of religion and a religious class-leader at the local Methodist church. He also had a reputation of breaking apart young slaves in which Douglass refers to him as a nigger-breaker. As young as Douglass was when he move in with Mr. Covey, he remembers when Mr. Covey gave him a sever whipping, cutting my back, causing the blood to run, and raising ridges on my flesh as large as my weensy fingers. This is puzzling to hear of a man who is committed to faith but his actions seemed to be contradicting. The name religion and law are two sophisticated terms that are the realms of life as well as a shared history th
