Characterization in William Shakespeareââ¬â¢s ââ¬ÅHamletââ¬Â and ââ¬ÅMacbethââ¬Â Essay Example for Free
Characterization in William Shakespeareââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Hamletâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Macbethâ⬠Essay William Shakespeare is regarded by many as one, if not the greatest writer of all time. It is interesting to note that his success is due to his tragedies. ââ¬Å"Hamletâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Macbethâ⬠are two of his best known work. Both titles deal with the tragedy of aristocratic people. Though, it appears that Shakespeare is fond of representing only one part of the society, he is actually talking about a very human flaw. Through the characters of his protagonists Hamlet and Macbeth, Shakespeare is suggesting that the real tragedy is found within oneââ¬â¢s self. Initially, Shakespeare had characterized Macbeth as a brave warrior. The wounded captain tells the audience that Macbeth was wounded in the battlefield, suggesting that he had fought bravely. But as the plot progresses, the audience discovers that he is less admirable. This is immediately noticeable when Macbeth had met the witches. The witches told them that Macbeth would be the thane of Cawdor. Although, Macbeth says he does not want to think of the prophecy because the thane of Cawdor is still alive, he seems to ponder on the thought, ââ¬Å"the thane of Cawdor lives: why do you dress me in Borrowââ¬â¢d robes?â⬠There is a hint of irony in Macbeth words. It is like he wants to be thane of Cawdor but says he does not. Aside from mere false modesty, the audience would learn that Macbeth harbors within himself some self-doubt. If it was not for Lady Macbeth, Macbeth could have not done anything that he is certain he wants to do. On the other hand, Hamlet seems to be a more flawed character than Macbeth. He is constantly thinking about how to kill Claudius and exact revenge for his father. However, when he got his first chance to kill Claudius, he made a pass on the chance to do so. When Hamlet caught Claudius in prayer, he did not kill Claudius be cause he thought his fatherââ¬â¢s murderer might go to heaven. Perhaps a helpful quote to use is the famous ââ¬Å"to be or not to be? â⬠That line is a succinct description for Hamlet as he always contradicts himself. Shakespeareââ¬â¢s talent for being able to describe the complexity of the human brain, had made his works classics. Shakespeare seems to be more fond of the flaws of the thought process rather than physical flaws. That is in opposition to earlier works by other authors such as Oedipus Rex, where the protagonist has a deformed foot. Shakespeareââ¬â¢s protagonists are most of the time described as well-to-do. Both Hamlet and Macbeth are even admirable in the initial portions of their respective stories. But Shakespeare reveals that their flaws is on how they think. With Hamlet and Macbeth always contradicting themselves, a tragic conclusion seems inevitable. But their real tragedy is not because one would go insane and the other would be mortally wounded. Hamlet and Macbethââ¬â¢s tragedy is that they themselves are the antagonists to their respective goals.

William James Essay -- philosophy of pragmatism
William James was a philosopher and psychologist but was most well known in the field of Psychology for developing the philosophy of pragmatism, or the Functionalist theory: "Theory of mental life and behavior that is concerned with how an organism uses its perceptual abilities to function in its environment." He was also the first Psychologist to be born in America. à à à à à William James was born on January 11, 1842 in New York City. His father, Henry James Sr. was a Swednborgian theologian, and one of his brothers was the great novelist Henry James. Throughout his youth, William attended private schools in the United States and Europe. He later attended the Lawrence Scientific School at Harvard University and then Harvard Medical School, where he received his degree in 1869 in the field of Physiology. The way that William got into the field of Psychology was that he got his degree in physiology and also enjoyed studying philosophy in his spare time, in psychology, he found, linked the two together. Before finishing his medical studies, he went on an exploring expedition in Brazil with the Swiss-American naturalist Louis Agassiz and also studied psychology in Germany. During this time, William retired due to illness but that didnââ¬â¢t stop his from excelling in the field. Three years later, in 1872, at the age of thirty, William become an instructor in physiology at Harvard University. In 1875, William started teaching Psychology at Harvard and after 1880 he was teaching both cl...

Effect of Drum Pad Machines on Todayââ¬â¢s Musicians and their Performances Essay
The chief use of drums and percussion keeps a songââ¬â¢s rhythm intact. Under a layering series of melodies and additional harmonies, the direction in varying yet calculated overall tempo of a song is maneuvered through as the percussionistââ¬â¢s prerogative changes. The natural pulse of the song is kept by the musical intelligence quotient through the musicianââ¬â¢s ear. But with the ever-enduring evolution of technology in music and vice-versa, electronic percussion equipment and devices have boomed through different artistsââ¬â¢ musical expression and have impacted diverse evolution among genres, especially and significantly on live performances. It seems like the powerful beats and thumps of a traditionally played drum kit have indeed found a rival in loops and grooves of electronic percussion. It can be argued that, with the introduction of this, specifically with drum pads, machines, and software, it has an effect on live music which somewhat eliminates a key human contributory component integral in percussions to song and performance. Effects of Drum Pad Machines on Todayââ¬â¢s Musicians and their performances In every live musical performance, the percussion element of the music being delivered by a musician or group of musicians fundamentally serves as the pulse and momentum for a song, and the song changes as the performance develops. Moreover, it considerably serves as the main musical queue as the pace of the song slowly builds up for an array of artistically audible outbursts or surprisingly dies down for a more instant tone-tempo change effect as required in a performanceââ¬âadding sense of presentation and colorful musical tones within. In this generationââ¬â¢s music scene, the rise of drum pad machines have ushered in electronic loops and grooves for musiciansââ¬â¢ convenience in song composition, song rehearsals and more importantly, even upon live performances. Definition of a Drum, Drum Kit, and Drum Pad Machine The most common image of a drum or any form of drums of which many hold could be believed to be anything that is round, and as a series of striking motion hits are applied to, sound is produced. Though this is somewhat true from what truly a drum is, it is not completely accurate. As explained by Drumdojo. com (2008): A drum is any cylindrical object (shell) or object with an open top that has a membrane normally called a head or skin stretched across it, this is known as a membranophone. The drum is struck on the membrane to produce a tone (n p. ). In a drum kit, which is traditionally and mainly used by drummer-musicians in live bands and performances as the main provider for a songââ¬â¢s percussion ingredients, it essentially consists of ââ¬Å"percussion instruments generally including but not limited to bass drum, operated with a foot pedal, snare drum, cymbals, and tomsâ⬠(Drumdojo. com, 2008, n p. ). A drum machine is basically considered to be an electronic musical gadget, the main purpose of which is to mimic a traditional drums kitââ¬âfrom every single instrument belonging to a kit and with every single sound it is capable of producing. Effects of Using Drum Pad Machines Live Despite the certain differentiations between drum pad machines and traditional percussion instruments such as a drum set, the option of choosing to use a drum pad machine truly lies within the motive and intent of various artists and their expression amongst genres. However, one must understand that with a drum pad machine, there are certain overlooked limitations it holds which in turn constrain the artistsââ¬â¢ over-all performance. Since a drum pad machine is a developed piece of technology, a mechanical gadget and a traditional drum kits is crafted through key specifications of size, material, and everything else in between. There would always be a direct comparison, and it could be said that a drum pad machine creation is fuelled by convenience and technology in music, while the drum kitsââ¬â¢ creation is duly developed for the art and science of music. As the comparison builds, it would more often than not end only in how musically and significantly restrictive a drum pad machine is to a live performance. With a drum pad machine, the player is considered rather mechanical than artistic. Since the beats, grooves, and loop are pre-programmed and just available for drum pad machine playerââ¬â¢s use on the machine, there is somewhat a reduction of the live aspect of a live performance. Buttons and pads available in the drum pad machine can be meddled and pressed by anyone. Thus, there are fewer requirements of truly learning the electronic instrument which translates to even lesser basis of substantiating a drum pad machine player to be skillful in anyway. In terms of a musicianââ¬â¢s confidence, since a drum machine could indeed be so compact, there would be much faith in its utilization, but there is a dismissed aspect of being confident in playing live which is the essence of any live performance. In addition, it is known that with the use of a manual and probably minimal practice, anyone could claim the throne being a skilled drum pad machine musician. Being in this age of accessible information, all these carry on and are known by the fans and music enthusiasts who attend live musical performances. Using drum pad machines in a live performance could be translated to perfect pitches and tones since there are already pre-set programming which rather does the work for the artist as opposed to fatigue that could take place as a percussionist performs via hands or sticks. But with this, the use of such only removes the human aspect of artistic expression and justifies a live performance to be strictly a calculation. Fatigue is part of any and every live performance because it only shows that the artists express themselves to be able to connect with their audienceââ¬âit may be a factor, but is not a good enough reason to compromise an aspect for a live performance. Hence, using a drum pad machine instead of live percussion instrument defeats the purpose of a live performance, for it limits not only individual musical fills and additions a musician may place to highlight style, but it also reduces artistic improvisation that is usually found in a live performance. There is also another important feature which drum pad machines falls short off in a live performance. In varying world cultures which entail diverse musical genres, a drum machine would hold to be off-putting in almost every sense. Musically, almost all cultures in the world holds a percussion instrument of their own which sets not only as a brand of the music they have, but more importantly is part of their cultural and nationalistic identity. For instance, Arabic music is known for the role of percussion instruments like the tabla (University of Florida. com, 2008, n. p. ). Al-Hammar (1999) describes the tabla as an hour-glass shaped drum which is ââ¬Å"traditionally made of clay, [but] more recently, it has been made of metal. The head is made of fish, goat or other animal skins, [and it] has also largely been replaced by a plastic substituteâ⬠(n. p. ). In a live performance, it is rather disloyal and to every extent be only a poor imitation and expression of Arabic music in performing such hymns from their culture through a drum machineââ¬âto purposely mechanize a cultureââ¬â¢s music. It is rather a futile attempt to replace the original sound produced from a distinctive percussion instrument. The main discrepancy lies not in perceived purpose but by intended function. In terms of serving their purpose, both can be of true service in providing the percussion for songs but vary in live performances. The major advantage which a traditional drum kit or a live percussion instrument may hold is of crucial disadvantage for the drum pad machine. Since different percussion instruments comprise a drum kit, particular specifications for each could be done, made, and assembled most fittingly for the musicianââ¬â¢s unique and artistic style of playingââ¬âin terms of tuning, material used, alloy utilized, etc. More importantly, with a drum kit and other live percussion instruments being played in a performance, a definitive and distinctive sound for the percussion line could be identified. Significantly, the genuine trademark of the artist is imbedded within a song which is indeed crucial in any musical form of expression. Nevertheless, it could be rebutted that aside from being handy and portable as compared to a drum set, the compact drum pad machine holds tone and tempo programming that a drum kit has, and moreââ¬â all is just a click, touch, or button away. However, its perceived purpose is also its key weakness because the various percussion tones found in the drum pad machineââ¬â¢s electronic memory chips is produced mainly not by the artist but essentially by the machine, as compared to the authentically noteworthy contribution by a musician in performance as the parts of a drum kit or a percussion instrument is played. The musician playing would pour on and express the themes and emotions of the song and connect with the audience with every commanding yet calculated strike, with every forceful and fierce kick, and every dominant splash. This visual and musical performance experience is not as illuminating or animated as a drum machine player pressing buttons on a drum pad machine. Thus, drum pad machines constrict the overall aspect of a live musical performance and do hold back the artistââ¬â¢s live execution. References Al-Hammar, A. (1999). The Arabic Music. The extensive records Essay
As technology continues to advance, computers are becoming more part of everyday life. Computers are everywhere at work, at school, and at home .Many daily activities either involve the use of or depend on information from a computer. This maybe because computers are used in almost every field and profession like education and office works to perform large number of computer application .It also the best solution for providing information and a way of communications in every individual and gives better understanding of some event s that can arouse the interest of some particular subject matter. The computerized world is a highly efficient one, which processing the big quantities of data and keeping .The extensive records will not be a problem to a post industrialized society, likewise the unreliable and slow processing and preparing student record and enrollment summary of report. At Mabitac National High School (MNHS) Mabitac, Laguna there are five hundred three students taking several year levels. The populations of the student in mentioned School are continued to grow which means also that an increase of records are handled by the Guidance Councilor. Clearly the manual system of enrollment and student record keeping are too much time consuming task. Computer can be considered as another instrument for developing a system like enrollment in every school. This can be a great help to those students, teachers and school who are handling many task from providing easier and faster access. The Problem and its Background Computer as part of the innovation in technology manifests bigger changes in world, economies, banks and other manufacturing centers flourished due to the catching power of computers in the field of education, not all school can afford to have numbers of computer to update the school manual system, which somehow caused a lot of inaccuracy and inefficiency in the data processing records, rules and regulations, profiles, and programs. The present system of Mabitac National High School is done manually such as the enrollment system, and record keeping. From the time it was started to operate, they use the manual system. Even nowadays, that they have computers, still they use it for proration of memos and letters. Mabitac National High School is a public School which is located at Brgy. Maligaya Mabitac, Laguna. And this School was started and established in the year 1970 known as Alas-as Brgy. High School. And it was found by Mrs. Lydia R. CHAPTER 2 REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE The chapter states the different literature and studies that were conducted for the research to gain familiarity that are relevant and similar to the present study. Related Literature Tinn (2001) stated that the computerization responded to the call the office or any workplace to help their daily operation. Malolos et.al (2002) stated that the study of automation is important in the sense time that minimizes the time and effort normally exerted in manual process. Janes (2001) stated that computers are extremely reliable device and very powerful calculators with some great accessories applications like word processing problem for all of business activities, regardless of size, computers have three advantages over other type of office equipment that process information because computer are faster, more accurate more economical. Reyes (2005) task would be time consuming to accomplish manually and more practical with the aid of computers field in cabinet. According to Flores (2002), the automation is described simply as the substitution of machine control of human. Dioso (2001) stated that computer assist careful intelligent planning, organizing, actuating and controlling .This maybe observed from the past that they monitor production activities, solve scientific problem and help arrive in tentative answer to a multitude of involve conditions. Ralph M. Stair (1999) emphasized that the development of technology through the years have enabled us to do more with less effort. From the orientation of the light bulb to the industrial revolution and beyond, we have continuously tried to in a more efficient means of doing tasks. Lewis (2002) stated that the reason for using computers vary from person to person. Some of the computers in business are to perform accuracy, to be as productivity, to decrease bottle necks or hassles to alter cash flows or to simples elevate your status. Sybex Inc (1999) stated that visual basic provide a graphical environment in which the users usually designed the forms and control that become the building block of tour application . Visual Basic support many useful tools that will help the user more productivity. Gold Chager et al (2003) said that computer as a device for processing information knew computer plays a significant role in their lives, but few are aware of just how pervasive role is. Mane (2000) mentioned that the creation of the computer made the easier to accomplish that by doing it manually, to have the direct access on straightforward answer just monitoring record where in the needs of computer make possible for everyone to get data in a particular need. We can consider that the computer is necessary and its productive tool for individual. Gurewich (1999) stated that the database system makes the work faster for every institution. For the mere fact that instead of doing things manually, with the use of computer technology everything is done fasters. Halili, M.C.N. (2004) that manââ¬â¢s actions are t just involuntary movements especially when time allow to plan his next action. These responses pass through the process of reasoning and analysis. Huntchinson et.al (2001) stated that file is a collection of related records. Examples are the entire studentââ¬â¢s courses card for Anthropology 101 or the transcript of all courses in the registerââ¬â¢s office. Bryan (2006) emphasized the information system is a set of people, procedures and resources that collects, transforms and disseminates information in an organization to doââ¬â¢s ends rely on many types of information system (IS). They might include simple manual information system and informal system and also computer based information system that uses hardware, software telecommunication and other forms of information technology (IT). Sander (2002) computers are an intelligence amplifier that can free human to use their time effectively. Because a computer is a fast and accurate electronic symbol or data manipulating system that design automatically accept and store input data process and procedure output results under the direction of the stored program or instruction. Towsand (2005) stated that database is structed collection of data. The data may be about people, product events in short, any type of information is to manage the collection of data for reporting and making decision. Adamski(2007) give some advantages of database processing first economy of scale getting more information from some amount of data, sharing data balancing conflicting requirement, enforcement of standard, controlled redundancy consisting integrity security ,flexibility and responsiveness ,increase programmers productivity, improve program maintenance and data independence Perkins (1999) stated that computer has an impressive impact upon business, governmental organization; bank and all sorts of organization and on how they are operate and manage. Alcaria (2004) explained that the use of computer are continue to grow, the need for a more timely information and data processing comes on demand keeping the records of any manual operations need the application of computer because handling it manually will only be conflicting. Kroenke (2002) in the early 1970ââ¬â¢s database processing was considered an esoteric subject of interest only to the longest corporation with the largest computer. Today, database processing is becoming an information system standard. Silberschatz (2006) in his book ââ¬Å"Database System Conceptâ⬠the goal of database system is to simplify and facilitate access to data. Ahitud et.al (2007) Mentioned that information system are more collection of hardware, software and people. They should be constructed to fit the organizationââ¬â¢s strategy and structure so that it could easily be adapted to the information they needed. Asumbra (2002) Access to information is the best way to. In line with technology access to information within fingertips is the easier way to be equipped in the future. Hammer (2003) Said that computer could eliminate the need for copying and rearranging information, which was entered into system. They also perform mathematical computation; in short computer can eliminate most of the paper works. Microsoft Corporation (2002) Explained that computer network are collection of computer and intelligent peripheral equipment that are inter connected by telephone lines, micro wave relays and other high-speed communication links of the purpose of exchanging data and sharing equipment. Related Studies Conde (2007) in his study entitled ââ¬Å"Network-bases Enrollment System of Paete National High School cited that the manual process of enrollment and manual handling of information and reports of the students is very laborious one. The proponents developed a network based system enrollment system to the said school to solve the huge amount of task. Garcia (2002) created the ââ¬Å"LSPC Enrollment Systemâ⬠, the study can be a great help to persons concerned during the enrollment period, the registrar, instructor of the students as they retrieval necessary information when needed and lessen the burden manually browsing over enrollment slip for record purposes Saayo et.al (2008) developed the system ââ¬Å"Network based automated Enrollment and grading system for Morong National High School. Due to increasing population of the institution, and the school currently implementing the manual system, every student spends a lot of time during enrollment period, such as paying their tuition fees a nd processing the school requirements. Valina et.al (2009) entitled ââ¬Å"Network-based student Permanent Record keeping and Enrollment System of Balian National High Schoolâ⬠. This System was made to lessen the time and effort exerted by both student and school employees. It is also made to give accurate reports and keep records of every students every students and for easy and fast way of enrollment. Soria et.al. (2006) constructed a system entitled ââ¬Å"Network-based Computerized inventory System for the supply office o the LSPC main campus. With the advancement of technology, devices and machines were improve , developed and inverted to cope up with the need of new world. There are different systems designed for reliable, efficient and very useful to the user. Cabang et.al. (2003) developed the ââ¬Ëcomputerized Students Record Monitoring System of Siniloan National High Schoolâ⬠, Computerized Student data will be exceedingly helped to the user through continuous management of the School. It could help the registral for a less effort services in he institutions specially in updating, printing and deleting students record. Velasco (2002) Study entitled ââ¬Å"Maulawin National High School Student Information Systemâ⬠cited that maintaining students, records manually is a very difficult task and time consuming. In that case, computerization system that can help and handle this data needed to speed up the process of studentââ¬â¢s record keeping and to promote and reliability. Cura et.al. (2004) Designed system entitled ââ¬Å"computerized inventory system of office of the supply in LSPUâ⬠is capable of handling voluminous data about the flow of item insurance and reply to the flow of itemsââ¬â¢ issuance and return in supply office Torres et.al. (2002) conducted a study that resolves around the importance computerization of student information. This study was conducted with the hope that it would help minimize time and effort in processing studentââ¬â¢s information in Maulawin National High School. The basic feature of this study is after the storage and access of retrieving and updating the data. Alcaira (1999) Stated that the using of computer are continue to grow, the need for a more timely information and data processing comes on demand keeping the record of any manual operations need the application, because handling it manually will only be conflicting. Aravia et.al. (2002) Show the growing importance of computers in the society. The significance of the study revolves the automation of student permanent record keeping. Garnace (1999) Developed application software for the computerized information system of a commercial piggery using the concept of the database and implemented it in database. Gumitao (2001) System is designed to provide reports of the list of enrollment per school year, periodical grade of students, and list of new, old and transferees Revalla (2005) created an Automation Enrollment System for the computer Science Department of the Laguna College business and Arts. The study was conceived because of the need to update the current registration system of LCBA, which is done manually. Her study, was based on the special problem of Mr. Bonifacio E. Bacani, Jr. about ââ¬Å"Student Record information Systemâ⬠. Kampitan (2000) developed an Enrollment System of Liceo De Victoria that is designed to keep the students records. This is used to provide an effective and faster of providing information of the student and also the accounting purposesââ¬â¢ Liceo De Victoria Enrollment was developed and implement using relational database and designed in clipper 5.3. Earlier, Encila (1999) Introduced the Enrollment System for the computer Science Department of LCBA and traders, designed of enrollment System is advantageous to the school because it speed up the process and with only a minimum amount of power and resources. Cacao (2002) designed the ââ¬Å"Morning Star Montessori School incorporated form 137implemented in Fox Base. Solomon (2002) developed Enrollment and Record keeping System, to know how to read sign the data that is used to be kept the record files of students and also that, it could be mange more efficiently in computer with his project. Quiver (2001) developed a program using database III which capable of retrieving, access in manipulating of data in easy way. A computerized system to minimized the lost of record and burden of work was designed by Pajarillo in 2002. Monsalve and Ilagan (2005) developed a program and designed using Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 and Microsoft access. The system is capable of receiving access, searching items, providing adequate information and data gathering. IPizzara and Veridiano (2001) this system was done using Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0. This conducted system goes along the trend of computerization to be in the field of competitiveness and survive to the complicated works. Relayo (1999) this study will assist the researcher regarding to the use of database and Visual Basic. This system have been designed in order to speed up the access and retrieval information and to lessen manual effort involve in the library routine of transaction. Magalang (2003) he proposed this to developed software that will help the management of the school ââ¬Å"lyceumââ¬â¢ in giving good service to its student in speeding of the process involve in monitoring account acquired during the enrollment & other payment transaction. Lazaro (2004) this study entitled ââ¬Å"Liceo de Los Banos record monitoring systemâ⬠password was created for the protection and was designed to be user-friendly by only authorized persons and to ensure security of data basic information. Lumbers (2002) stated in her study entitled ââ¬Å"a systematic enrollment process using database system in Saint John academy. Calamba, Lagunaâ⬠that the application of database system to the enrollment process will greatly increase its efficiency; automation of enrollment process will upgrade the quality of the services provided for the qualified enrollees.

Arthur Miller, 1953 Essays
Arthur Miller, 1953 Essays Arthur Miller, 1953 Essay Arthur Miller, 1953 Essay Miller choose to have this moment, in Act 4, because it shows how Proctor dies after the moment. In this moment, Proctor is signing a confession to show he has met the Devil, and to say he has not had an affair, [PROCTOR now lays the paper down and signs his name]. It links what has gone before, because he was locked in jail, and this shows how he is going to save his life by signing a confession paper, I confess to God, and God has seen my name on this! It is enough! Not just because it is relevant in the story, but it is a good device for the audience as well, because it gives the audience a sense that he is heroic. With this scene it shows first how he gives up and signs a confession paper, but then he has a change of heart and rips the paper [hysterically, as though the tearing paper were his life], saying he has never seen the Devil. This gives the audience a sign of relief, because he has done the right thing. This moment will give the audience a final decision about how good Proctor is for now I do think I see some shred of goodness in John Proctor. But some people may think he is not a good and heroic man, because of his affair with Abigail Williams, and that Proctor is letting people have pain, because he is a very important man to his friends, family and Elizabeth, [ELIZABETH, in a burst of terror, rushes to him and weeps against his hand]. Your left to decide how good he is. For this moment, Miller may have shown Proctor as Jesus. He has given his name up to show his honour to his friends who are going to die showing there innocence. Jesus is the same, a good man, letting himself die for the causes and deaths of his fellow friends. It is now six months later and autumn, though the American term fall, used by Miller, seems far more suitable considering where we have now come to in the play As well as the darkness of the setting, we are struck by the emptiness of the room. Miller mentions no furniture other than two benches and a lantern on the wall. Here life is stripped down to the bare minimum. It is in this setting that Proctor will have to search his conscience, his inner self, and make the crucial but basic decision whether to live or die. In one interpretation, a video 1996 Nicholas Hytner film, the setting is outside. It is beside the sea, which I guess is on the edge of Salem. It is early in the morning because the sun is starting to rise up. It was set at the seaside because it shows that the play is ending on a good sunny note. Also the sea is better than the Salem meeting house, because it shows the rise of Proctor. It is ironic because the seaside shows good, and is like a rise to heaven, another reason for the sea to be chosen, but Proctor is dieing, not showing good. Although he is dieing and rising up to heaven, he is dieing like his loyal friends. The background of the sea is lighter, than in the courtroom, the sea makes Proctor look more heroic to the audience. As this key moment is set in autumn, and it is in the morning, when the sun is coming through. Light is not much used in the key moment, but until John Proctor says his name is important, Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! , and then he rips the piece of paper there is a stage direction [hysterically, as though the tearing paper were his life] this shows lightning coming through. As we know light is shown shining down on Jesus when he heals somebody, light comes through the windows to show how good Proctor is. In the interpretation, the sun comes up and shines, again showing Proctor as Jesus, doing the right thing to stick with what is truthful, that he has not seen the Devil. In one interpretation, a video 1996 Nicholas Hytner film, music is there as dramatic devices. The stances are relevant to. When Proctor is answering to Danforths questions if he has seen certain people with the Devil. Danforth is standing up behind a small table, and Cheever and Parris are there, are three wearing black. Proctor is in very old cloths, all thilthy, but this gives him more power, firstly it shows he is given up, that he has seen the Devil, his cloths taking him down, even though he is saving his life, but the cloths are significant because Jesus wore bad cloths, ripped and torn, but he was dieing for his fellow friends like Proctor. The three behind the table: Cheever on the left Danforth in the middle, and Parris on the right, looks like they are the high people, there are high in reputation, but Proctor is low, and only wearing bad ripped cloths. When he rips the paper, there is a drumbeat, and this changes everything, because then Proctor is more of the higher reputation. Music is used when Danforth asks if he has seen certain people with the Devil, he carries on saying no. His no is important to show how weak he has become, so music makes it more dramatic to emphasise on the rhythm of Danforth and Proctor saying no. Before my key moment starts, which is when he starts to sign the paper Proctor starts to get questioned by Danforth Mr Proctor, have you seen the Devil in your life? and then the dramatic devices is used upon Proctor [PROCTORS jaws lock. ] and also afterwards [through his teeth, his face turned from REBECCA] all shows how weak Proctor is. His knows that all of this is wrong to confess, but he is saying it, and going ahead like his wife had told him. The stage direction which says [astonished] when Rebecca is talking, is no surprise, because she knows, Elizabeth knows and Proctor himself knows that he is doing the wrong thing, by confessing. Now the Key moment starts when Proctor is signing his name on a paper, to show his confession, the stage direction says [CHEEVER goes to PROCTOR, the confession and a pen in hand. PROCTOR does no look at it] which again proves he is doing the wrong thing, which he knows. The stage direction after says [after glancing at the confession] and then the quote You have all witnessed it it is enough. this shows how he is trying to resist the paper, and thinks that the paper of his confession is a lot worse then to say it out to the judges. He knows this confession is wrong, but he does not want a paper to give evidence he confessed he has been with the Devil. It makes others, who died, annoyed and disappointed with Proctor; he is a good man and would die for his loyal friends, he is a good man. After that he starts to sign the paper with the stage direction [His breast heaving with agonized breathing. PROCTOR now lays the paper down and signs his name] which shows the impact of Proctor. He is full of anger and knows that he has been beaten to sign the confession paper. So this is a dramatic device, to show how he hates this paper, and does not want to sign it. Danforth is eager to have this paper, but does not to show it. He wants to tell everybody that Proctor has confessed, and is a good man, even though he is not. Miller choose this stage direction, [perplexed, but politely extending his hand], to make Danforth look less eager then he usually is, but Proctor takes his the wrong way again. He thinks that Danforth is going to take it away and show everybody, but thats not true as seen [as though PROCTOR did not understand], and Proctor shows weakness and gives away slightly, that he did not want for this to all go through. Others did not complain any further to show they have confessed as said by Proctor after You will not use me! I am no Sarah Good or Tituba, I am John Proctor! As this argument carries on Danforth get suspicious [with suspicion] and is wondering why Proctor is resisting for Danforth to take the paper. Proctor gives in, and [with a cry of his soul] Proctor says it is his name, and this shows that he does not want to give his name corruption; he wants his friends, who are dead or dieing, to know he is better then the confessors. Danforth is so astonished, [pointing at the confession in Proctors hand] and he answers, Is that document a lie? and [PROCTOR is motionless] and [PROCTOR does not reply]. He realises he has said the wrong thing, and he has given in, not saving his life. At this point he is in a dilemma, to say he has seen the Devil, or he has not. Before he was going through that he has seen the Devil, in the middle of this key moment, he is in the dilemma, and so he must now say he has not seen the Devil, which means torture. This is true because the stage direction, and dramatic device is used [His breast heaving, his eyes staring, PROCTOR tears the paper and crumples it, and he is weeping in fury, but erect]. He has though that this is the true and desirable answer he wants to show. He shows now he is strong, and the paper is historic as well [hysterically as though the tearing paper were his life]. The paper is a dramatic device because it represents the confession, but it is a lie. When he rips it he rips the confession, and the lie, which represents Danforths triumph over Proctor. It allows use to see Proctors change of heart. Contrasting considerations of self-interest lead Danforth and Parris to beg John Proctor to confess to witchcraft. While Parris fears for his safety, Danforth operates to defend the court from any more attacks. The change in Danforths open desire is very important because previously, Danforth meant to confirm the goodness of the court, but here he suggests corruption to protect the political value of the government; he worries if postponing the executions, it will show weakness on him and part of the court. By prompting Proctor to give a false confession, Danforth indicates that he likely believes the witchcraft charges are false. This shows how the witch hunts have gained a life of their own; the reputation and hierarchy lead the court to continue with the case and executions even when the original delay of the trials was a bad idea and even when the people who run the trials are concerned about the power of the charges. When Proctor says, Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! this shows how he cares for his name like when he cleaned his name about his lechery, his affair with Abigail Williams. When he said, I have known her, sir. I have known her. which he releases his secret about his affair, and this is cleaning his name, like when he rips the paper and does not agree that he has seen the Devil. He is cleaning his name. Of course there is speech in the key moment, which is not truthful, but nobody is speaking truthful. Proctor saying he has meet with the Devil. As you can see by Danforth asking Mr Proctor. Did you bind yourself to the Devils service? and then Proctor saying I did. This we know is not true because before he was accused of seeing the Devil, all down to Mary. She is a weak person, and Abigail was tormenting her, showing the judges that Mary was hurting her, which is not true. Then when Mary was getting weaker and weaker, she gives in and says she has seen the Devil, but Proctor is been seeing the Devil as well Youre the Devils man! and then He come at night and every day to sign, to sign, to -. There is some dramatic irony involved in the key moment but it is not as strong as the first key moment I choose. The dramatic irony involved in this key moment is when Proctor says he has been with the Devil, even though he has not. He at first signed a paper for confession, showing he has seen the Devil. It is dramatic irony for the audience because Proctor is doing the wrong thing, and confessing for being accused, which is not true. Proctor would not usually do this, because he likes to keep his name clean from anything, which is why he teard down his name, that he had an affair with Abigail. But this time he did not tear down his name showing he has not seen the Devil, he tries to save himself I did. Conclusion The Crucible is always related to themes, because it is based on real true issues. Here are themes related to the two key moments: Reputation Reputation is very important in the religious Salem, where public and private goodness are important. In an atmosphere where reputation shows an important role, the fear of blame by friendship become s particularly evil. Focused on a high public reputation, the people of Salem fear that the sins of their friends and other important people will hurt their names. Some characters think their name is to be protected and their respective reputations. John Proctor especially thinks his name should not be harmed, and will tell the truth to keep his name clean. Early in the play, he has a chance to put a stop to the girls accusations, but his desire to keep his reputation makes him from testifying against Abigail. At the end of the play, however, Proctors need to keep his good name leads him to make the brave choice not to make a false confession and to go to his death without signing his name to something he hasnt done. By refusing to surrender his name, he frees himself for his earlier failure and dies with honour. Danforth is very powerful the Act 3 key moment Power- The witch trials allow many characters in the play who are previously edgy in the Salem society. In general, women are low ranked, doing the housework etc, compared to the male-dominated Sale. They have little options in life and work as servants for townsmen, until they can get married, and having kids. For this reason, Abigail is a slave to John Proctors sexual desire, but he strips away her purity when he commits adultery with her, and he provokes her nasty jealousy when he terminates their affair. Abigails accusations of witchcraft and Devil-worship immediately command the attention of the court. By supporting herself, in the eyes of others, with Gods will, she gains power over society, as do the other girls in her pack, and her word becomes incontrovertible, as do theirs. Accusations, Confessions, and Legal Proceedings- The witch trials are central to the action of The Crucible, and dramatic accusations and confessions fill the play. In the first act, before the hysteria begins, Parris accuses Abigail of dishonouring him, and he then makes a series of accusations against his parishioners. Giles Corey and Proctor respond in manner, and Putnam soon joins in, creating a group of accusation even before Hale arrives. The entire witch trial system relies on accusations, the only way that witches can be seen, and confessions, which provide the proof of the honesty of the court actions. Proctor attempts to break this with a confession of his own, when he admits to the affair with Abigail, but this confession is false from the accusation from Elizabeth. Proctors brave decision, at the end of the play, to die rather than confess to a fault that he did not do, he finally breaks the cycle. The court collapses afterwards, undone by the negative responses of its victims to spread lies. The Witch Trials and the Witch Hunt- There is hardly any symbolism within The Crucible, but, in total, the play can be seen as symbolic, the fear about communism. Miller has this matter in his play. In that while there were no actual witches in Salem, there were Communists. However, Millers concern in The Crucible is not with whether the accused actually are witches, but rather with the opposition of the court officials to believe that they are not. In light of the witch-hunt extremes, which hurt many innocents, this was felt strongly in Millers own time. Good and evil- One very important battle that is not very obvious in the story is with God and the Devil, being good and evil. The question is will the accused people be sent to heaven with the good God or will they burn in hell with the evil Satan? This is mainly what the whole play is based on. The puritan religion is the reason for why the people are being executed. The forces of good always tried to do what was best for everybody, even if it meant breaking some puritan laws. The evil group did whatever was best for them. They were greedy and had no consideration for others. The moment, which is most dramatic, is the 1st one in Act 3 because it leads up to a very important factor for the final Act. When Elizabeth says no, this is very relevant to the whole story because it shows Proctor was lying about his affair with Abigail Williams, and that she will not get charged for lying about the whole witchcraft. The story would of ended on Act 3 but it went on. This does not show why it is the most dramatic, but it is a good idea to make it the most dramatic moment, that is why I think Miller made this moment dramatic, because it is very important to the play. The play is a full of emotions for the audience, different all the way through. Miller takes the audience on this roller coaster ride by making them experience hatred, love, confusion and intrigue by using the characters as different tools. The audience are to have mixed feelings for certain characters, some members of the audience do not like Proctor for his adultery, others give him sympathy and think he is heroic at the end of the plays. The play in its entirety is an oblique comment on 1950s situation in America; it was not simply that, it has emotions and real characters. It is an intricate web of relationships and hidden priorities from each character, which together makes for a complex, but an enclosing play. The way the audience feels gets Millers message through. The play is relevant nowadays for many reasons: because it links with the situation in Afghanistan how people are tortured if they do not apply Sadam as the Prime Minister, also the film versions of the play it is exciting to watch because of the high tension and quite fast pace throughout, it incorporates dramatic irony to make the audience part of the action. The play is twisted and left on a cliffhanger, like soaps, which shows how the play is relevant to today and the audience of today. The whole thing about lechery and sexual interest can link to soaps and it is like a soap opera, and is artistically pleasing for the audience. The girls hysteria gives play excitement and activity, something physical to watch if you do not understand the words. The play can appeal to religious people, for new views and ideas, historians, real events, and people young adults, for excitement women, for love story The first key moment in Act 3 was the best. It is full of tension and at the end of the moment it ends with dramatic irony and irony. This moment catches me as the audience, and the way Elizabeth avoids the question, builds my interest in the story. When she says No, sir I wanted to go on, because I wanted to know what is going to happen now. The second key moment in Act 4 also was good; I found it hard for me as the audience. When he signed the paper of his confession, I though he has done the wrong thing, even though it is to save his life. Other people may disagree, but I think Hale was not so good as others would think. If I were him I would die a honourable man so I could be placed in history books, and known as a good man, instead of saving your life for a name. But then Proctor came to his senses and he changed his mind, which made the audience fell more relieved because he shows his true self, a heroic man, like Jesus, and dieing to show he is honourable and his loyalty with his friends who are going to be hanged. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading The Crucible, and even though it is about events that happened over 300 years ago, it still holds an uncanny relevance because, sometimes, we can see ourselves in Arthur Millers characters. Perhaps The Crucible can so relevant that it helps to stop terrible tragedies like the witch hunts happening again in the future.

The 5 Best Schools to Earn a Human Resources Degree + What You Can Do With It
The 5 Best Schools to Earn a Human Resources Degree + What You Can Do With It SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips When you hear the term ââ¬Å"human resourcesâ⬠or ââ¬Å"HR,â⬠what do you think of? Youââ¬â¢ve probably heard it quite a few times, whether thatââ¬â¢s from your business courses, the news, or even as youââ¬â¢ve researched potential majors. One of our favorite examples of someone who works in human resources is the character Toby fromThe Office. Tobyââ¬â¢s job was to keep Michael Scott, Dunder Mifflinââ¬â¢s off-the-wall regional manager, in check. (If youââ¬â¢ve ever seen The Office, you know that was an impossible order!) And if you remember Toby, youââ¬â¢ll also recollect that he was also considered a wet blanket and no fun. But despite its portrayal in The Office, working in human resources is actually an excellent fit for anyone who enjoys working with people and shaping a companyââ¬â¢s policies. This article will not only introduce you to the human resources degree, it will also give you a peek at the doors it can open for you. What Is Human Resources? So if human resources isnââ¬â¢t the snooze-fest that The Office makes it out to be, then what is human resources, exactly? Human resources is the department in a company or business that ââ¬Å"is focused on activities relating to employees.â⬠In other words, the human resources teamââ¬â¢s whole job is to handle any organizational, policy, or staffing issue as it relates to the people who work at a company. That means that human resources is a vital part of any healthy business! The duties of a human resources department vary depending on the size and structure of a company, but in general, it handles all the personnel (or employee) issues for the business. This includes things like hiring employees, training new team members, implementing new employee-oriented programs, managing employee benefits, protecting employeesââ¬â¢ legal rights, helping employees advance in their careers, keeping everyone motivated, and establishing/maintaining the companyââ¬â¢s culture. It might make more sense if you think of a business like a car. If executives are the drivers and employees are the engine, then people who work in human resources are mechanics. They help make sure that the car is running as smoothly and efficiently as possible! What Does a Career in Human Resources Look Like? The human resources field is robust and offers people career opportunities in an incredible variety of sub-fields that range from personnel management to corporate training. Here are four human resource jobs that you might not have known existed! HR Specialist Median annual salary: $60,350 If you get a degree in human resources, youââ¬â¢re qualified to enter a company as an HR specialist. HR specialists handle a wide variety of human resources tasks, especially when it comes to recruiting, interviewing, and hiring employees. Because this isnââ¬â¢t an entry-level position, HR specialists often deal with more complex HR issues, like administering benefits, addressing internal problems, and developing company strategies, too. Training and Development Manager Median annual salary: $87,700 An HR Training and Development Manager is in charge of all the education, training, and career development for employees within a company. Often, they develop unique training sessions, classes, and workbooks specific to their company and its needs. People who excel as a training and development manager enjoy helping people learn and grow. Their job is to make sure that everyone has access to the materials and knowledge they need to have great careers! Executive Recruiter Average annual salary: $78,785 Executive recruiters are talent scouts for companies. Their job is to help large companies and corporations fill empty leadership positions with the best and brightest people. Executive recruiters have to be insightful and persuasivenot only do they need to understand what the hiring company needs, they have to convince executives to take a chance on a new role, too. (Many times, executive recruiters are courting people who already have jobs at other companies.) Additionally, some executive recruiters have the potential to earn financial bonuses for successful hires...so this job can be a lucrative one! Labor Relations Specialist Median annual salary: $83,298 A labor relations specialist serves as the intermediary between labor unions and a company. Not only do they negotiate with unions, they also help draft contracts, too. Itââ¬â¢s important for a labor relations specialist to understand local, state, and federal labor laws. Itââ¬â¢s also their job to make sure their company complies with all the important labor regulationsso this is a great position for anyone interested in working in a legal field! Operations Manager Median annual salary: $63,708 Becoming an operations manager isnââ¬â¢t strictly a human relations job, but itââ¬â¢s a common career path for people who start off in a human relations field. Operations managersââ¬â¢ job is to make sure all of the operational aspects of a company are running smoothly. This includes overseeing product development and manufacturing, making sure deliverables make it to clients on time, and working to keep projects on budget. In bigger companies, operations managers also serve as important members of the leadership team! This job is a fantastic fit for highly organized people who like jobs with lots of variety. What Is a Human Resources Degree? A human resources degree program is a specialized course of study that prepares you for a career as a human resources professional. It combines classes in general businesslike business management and strategywith others designed to help you manage the personnel issues a business might face. Unlike some fields, you can earn a human resources degree on four different tiers: the associate level, the bachelor level, and the master level, and the Ph.D. level. Associateââ¬â¢s Degree Some community colleges offer associateââ¬â¢s degrees in human resources. These are normally two-year degrees that you complete on a community college campus in your city or through a distance learning program associated with a community college in your state. People who have associateââ¬â¢s degrees in human resources are often considered generalists, meaning they donââ¬â¢t specialize in a specific field of human resources, like benefit management or training. That means their degree will qualify them for entry-level positions, like human resource clerk or assistant recruiter. Some companies offer people with associateââ¬â¢s degrees on-the-job training so they can advance into more specialized, higher-paying roles as they grow their career. So an associateââ¬â¢s degree in human resources is a great option for anyone who isnââ¬â¢t a good fit for a four-year degree but still wants to enter a job field with the potential for advancement! Bachelorââ¬â¢s Degree The bachelorââ¬â¢s degree is by far the most common human resources degree. Most large universities offer a human resources program, which is usually run through an institutionââ¬â¢s business school. These four-year programs offer a comprehensive business education that includes overviews of business management, practices, and finance. But more importantly, bachelorââ¬â¢s programs provide a comprehensive education in the field of human resources, and they equip graduates to start their careers in a variety of different business environments ranging from small, local companies to national non-profits. Additionally, some bachelorââ¬â¢s programs allow students to specialize in a specific sub-field of human resources, like organizational development or human resources management. This allows students to find better, higher paying jobs right out of school (and qualify for general HR positions, too). Masterââ¬â¢s Degree People who pursue masterââ¬â¢s degrees in human resources have their sights set on leadership positions. Earning a Masterââ¬â¢s of Business Administration (MBA) degree with an emphasis in human resources can lead to roles like directorships, or even becoming the vice president for human resources at a larger company. In general, an MBA in human resources takes two years to complete. The MBA in human resources is even more concentrated than the bachelorââ¬â¢s degree, meaning that students will take more rigorous, more in-depth courses about human resources and the future of the field. Consequently, that means thereââ¬â¢s no standard course load for this type of degree. Each program is different, so youââ¬â¢ll want to do your research before committing to a specific university. PhDDegree A PhD is the highest degree you can earn in any field, and the PhD in human resources is no different. People who pursue a PhDare preparing themselves to enter academia (as a professor) or related research fields. Unlike other degree programs which focus on the practical application of human resources principles, PhD programs are designed with research in mind. Students work with faculty advisors to undertake new, unique research projects related to human resources. A PhD in human resources can take anywhere from four to seven years to complete. Online Degree As education has moved into the digital age, so have degree programs. Schools across the United States offer online-only human resources degree programs...which means you can earn an associateââ¬â¢s, bachelorââ¬â¢s, or even masterââ¬â¢s degree from the comfort of your own home! Online degree programs have the added benefit of letting you learn at your own pace, so if youââ¬â¢re a working student, this could be an excellent option for you. One word of caution, though: the online education space is rife with potential scammers. Make sure that youââ¬â¢re signing up with an accredited, non-profit university! You should research both the program and school so that you know youââ¬â¢re participating in a legitimate program. Microprocessors advancement generations Research Paper
Microprocessors advancement generations - Research Paper Example Microprocessors or processors are the core components of any information system contributing to the goals of an organization. The microprocessor or processor ââ¬Å"interprets and carries out, or processes, instructions and data contained in the softwareâ⬠the microprocessor evolved from the creation of transistors in to integrated circuits. Moreover, the integration of these components is vast in this current age of information technology, where every now and then, computing devices are expanding their usage beyond imagination and finds a new product to take their place. Today, microprocessors are comprised of over millions of transistors that are integrated to a small chip that can be easily located on the fingertips (Betker, Fernando and Whalen 29). However, the factor that makes these microprocessors better from the other is the speed on which it operates. Microprocessor clock speed is measured in Mega Hertz (MHz), Giga Hertz (GHz) and TeraFLOPS. Microprocessors Advancement Generations The first general purpose microprocessor, composed on a single chip was launched in 1971. The microprocessor was capable to operate on an eight-bit architecture along with the implementation capacity of four bits. Moreover, the microprocessor includes 2300 transistors with a capability to perform less than 0.1 million instructions per second (MIPS). After the invention of the first general purpose microprocessor, 8008 right bit microprocessor was invented. The microprocessor was built on 3500 transistors as compared to the general-purpose microprocessor with 2300 transistors.... Moreover, a language was also introduced for operating the system named as assembly language. The processor was built on 29000 transistors along with features including memory protection and floating point co processor. Moreover, in 1981, IBM a company for manufacturing commuting devices launched the latest version of Intelââ¬â¢s 8086. The microprocessor was named as 8088. The second generation was triggered by a significant improvement in the architecture of microprocessors as Motorola launched the first 32-bit microprocessor named as Motorola 68000. The processor was equipped with general-purpose registers supporting less than 1 million instructions per second. Motorola 68000 was used with Apple Mac, Silicon graphics and Apollo systems. The third generation was started by the first commercial microprocessor named as MIPS2000 based on Reduced Instructions Set Computing (RISC). Moreover, the processor supported instructions and data cache simultaneously. As compared to the previou s processor supporting less than one MIPS, MIPS 2000 was capable of providing five to eight MIPS. The total transistors that were embedded on the processor were 125,000 thousand. The fourth generation of microprocessors was started by the introduction of 64-bit architecture. The processor supporting the 64-bit architecture was MIPS 4000. As compared to the third generation microprocessor i.e. MIPS 2000, MIPS 4000 capability was unmatched. Instead of installing the caches separately on the motherboard of the computer, it was integrated in the microprocessor. The features for integrated cache are on chip and off chip i.e. as a secondary cache. Moreover, floating point was also integrated on the chip. The microprocessor is
